Catch alarms in a conveyor system and notify maintenance personnel
Keywords: Low-Cost, S7, MPI
Setting
- A manufacturer of farm machines uses a large, refurbished chain conveyor system in his paint-shop department.
- The waggons on the chain sometimes get stuck because of residues of paint or sandblast, but also
- drive long ways without personnel around to detect a problem
- In case of a problem, the whole chain is stopped and maintenance has to walk long ways to find out what went wrong
In this case, Teeken
- can monitor the alarms
- immediately inform the maintenance people with a detailed message
In addition, the type of alarm and the time of stop and restart can be logged into a file for weekly or monthly analysis.
Solution
This is a definite low-cost solution:
- A surplus WindowsXP PC for Teeken is installed into the controller cabinet
- the connection to the S7-315 PLC is made with a left-over MPI cable, and
- the PC is connected to the company network and can send e-mails
- the service personnel, 4 persons, are equipped with Android mobile phones
The Teeken configuration contains
- 1
source (the PLC)
- 1
node for every alarm bit
- 1
receiver that will send e-mails, see below
- 1 additional
receiver for the team manager
- Only one directory for all nodes
Notification
- The company decides to use pushover.net to send push notifications in case of an alarm
- The main Teeken
receiver is configured to send e-mails to one specific user-id at pushover.net
- The individual mobile phones are managed on the pushover site
- The additional
receiver will send an e-mail to the team manager
Now, when an alarm occures, Teeken will send an e-mail containing the corresponding message text to pushover.net. Pushover.net will send out push notifications to the cell phones, to inform the service people.
The additional e-mail to the team manager will be automatically filtered into a folder. The team manager has an always up to date status and can gather the details for each alarm from his crew.
