Setting

A freelancing implementation engineer, working on an already producing machine, wants to

• record some status values to measure productivity improvements
• receive alarms during his off-duty hours, to bring the machine back online

Unfortunately,

• the S7 PLC has no TCP/IP connection
• the customer will not allow access to his network

Solution

• The engineer installs his back-up notebook with Teeken into the controller cabinet
• A pre-paid surf stick provides the internet connection, with a USB extension cable, to bring the antenna outside the cabinet
• He uses a Gmail account to send mails to the Boxcar app on the engineers iPhone
• When he leaves at night, he connects his MPI programming cable to the back-up notebook, starts the internet connection and Teeken

The Teeken configuration

• records the productivity data into log files on the notebook
• sends some performance counters as normal e-mails to the engineers normal e-mail account
